I originally trained as a silversmith at Loughborough College of Art and Design; followed by an MA in industrial design at Birmingham Polytechnic. My first design post was in Germany with WMF and this influenced me enormously.

After gaining commercial design and lecturing experience in England, Germany, India and Hong Kong I spent seven years at the Design Council in London working with manufacturing industry. I established david hayward design in 1986 and moved to my present studio and workshop in 2000.

I export my range of writing instruments to many parts of the world including the USA, Canada, Japan, Germany and Italy
